At last the weather is good enough to sit out on the balcony – and a long time in coming. Within the last couple of weeks we’ve had snow in Scotland and sleet here in Central London.
UV rays not withstanding, I love sitting outside with a book and a cold drink, getting my ‘South of France’ type tan. Luckily, the set of glass-topped table, four armchairs and a sunshade we bought from Argos years ago are still going strong.
I’m used to seeing bluebells in a more natural habitat – in a bosky wood. But here they are in the patch of ground surrounding this Victorian block of flats in Westminster.
I don’t usually walk this way, though I sometimes park in the Disabled bay further along the street. I was delighted to see this flash of colour, a reminder that Spring has finally come.
When I’ve walked past before, the area in front of the apartments has been a mixture of tangled greenery interspersed with areas of dry earth. Lovely to be cheered up on my walk back from the bank.
It’s not spring for another month – not until Louse’s birthday on March 21st – but there’s something about a window box full of narcissi and primulas that cheers you up on a cold February day.
